The Mount Prospect Public Library has many commonly used federal and state income tax forms available for distribution. Additionally, assistance with printing/photocopying of other forms and publications can be obtained by request at the Research Services Desk on the second floor.

VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Offers free tax help to people who make low to moderate income; who are 60 years of age and older; and for those with limited English—speaking skills who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. Sites also provide access to computers for online filing. Appointments are required. Learn more about VITA and find the nearest location.

IRS Free File program provides free tax preparation software and electronic filing to taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $84,000 or less. Some offer the program in Spanish  and  also offer state returns for free.

Village of Mount Prospect

Mount Prospect Human Services Department provides free income tax assistance. Trained AARP volunteer counselors will assist in preparing federal and state tax forms. In-person and virtual appointments are available in February 12 – April 14 on assorted Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is no age limit. Wheeling Township

Free tax assistance for seniors will be provided by trained AARP tax counselors. Wheeling Township offers in-person tax appointments Friday mornings beginning February 6th to Friday April 10th. Clients must stop by the office to pick up their packet of information, which must be completed before their appointment. Residents can call 847-259-7730 for more information and to make an appointment.

Call 847-768-5944 for information and an appointment to meet with an AARP tax counselor. Appointments are required and are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning February 10th through April 15th

Prospect Heights Public Library

IRS-Certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. To qualify taxpayers must have an income of $67, 000 or less, or be disabled, or English is a second language. Tax preparers need paper printouts of supporting documents. Please see Adult Service Desk for help with printing before your appointment time. Please register for a one-hour appointment at www.phpl.info or call 847-259-3500.

Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program offers free tax preparation help to individuals who are age 60 and older as well as people with low household incomes. Tax return preparation assistance is provided to taxpayers during the normal period for filing Federal income tax returns which is from January 15th to April 15th each year. However, the program provides quality tax assistance year-round. For more information call 847-823-0453.
