FRIDAYS ON THE GREEN: Pack a picnic dinner or enjoy take-out from one of Mount Prospect’s  restaurant’s  on Friday (Aug. 13) for concert under the stars!. The Dill Spears will perform from 6 – 8 p.m. on Centennial Green at Village Hall (50 S. Emerson St.). Don’t  forget your blanket or lawn chairs. This  free  concert is sponsored by Experience Mount Prospect.  

EYE CANDY: What cars were popular in the 60”s? Find out Saturday (Aug. 14) from 3 – 9 p.m. when Bluesmobile Cruise Night features the” beautiful rides”. This weekly event takes place in the  Mount  Prospect Metra East commuter Lot at the SE corner of Emerson St. and Northwest Hwy. DJ Tony- Flashback 50s provides the tunes.  

COFFEE WITH COUNCIL: Discuss anything concerning Mount Prospect with Village Department Heads and Elected Officials on Saturday (Aug. 14) from 9 – 11 a.m. in the Farley Community Room of Village Hall (50 S. Emerson St.) Enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee while you chat. Coffee with Council meets the second Saturday of each month. Questions? Call 847/392-6000. 

FARMERS’ MARKET: Stop and shop on Sunday (Aug. 15) from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Farmers’ Market in the East Commuter Lot (Northwest Hwy. and Emerson St.). Support local producers and one-of-a-kind vendors by stocking up on fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers, and other goodies. This is also a drop-off location for the Mount Prospect Food Pantry and a collection site for used eyeglasses and hearing aids. 

SUMMER SUPPERS: Those in need of a nutritious meal can find one offered by community churches. WRITERS GROUP: Do you enjoy writing short stories, poetry or another creative format? Are you looking for constructive criticism in a friendly environment among others who share your passion? Join the Mount Prospect Writers Group on Tuesday (Aug. 17) from 7 – 9 p.m. in Study Room 2A on the second floor of the Main Branch of  the  Library (10 S. Emerson St.). The group is open to all adult writers with all levels of writing experience, in all genres. Bring up to five double-spaced pages and copies to share (approximately 10) with group members.   

CALLING ALL QUILTERS: Working on a quilt or another sewing project? Join the Sew Bee It Quilters who enjoy the same on Wednesday (Aug. 18) from 9 a.m. – Noon. Participants meet in the Farley Community Room of Mount Prospect Village Hall (50 S. Emerson St.) Beginners to experts and everyone in-between is welcome. The group meets the third Wednesday of every month. It is  requested that masks be worn while in the Community Room.

—-FRESH VEGGIES ACCECPTED: Do you have an abundance of homegrown garden vegetables? Consider donating the surplus to Wheeling Township Food Pantry (1616 N. Arlington Heights Rd.AH). Drop off Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Items need not be washed; please remove all loose dirt and lingering insects prior to donating. If you need food, or know someone who does, call the Wheeling Township Assistance Department at 847/259-7730. 

—-COOK COUNTY ASSESSOR APPEALS: The next opportunity to appeal the 2021 assessed value of your property with the Cook County Assessor for Wheeling Township has not yet been determined. You can check the calendar by visiting www.cookcountyassessor.com.  The Wheeling Township office can assist in finding comparable properties for an online appeal (the preferred method). Contact the office at 847/259-1515 or email taxinfo@wheelingtownship.com 

Please include the PIN number (found at the top of the tax bill) in the subject line and name and address in the body of the email. The Township will send a list of comparable properties and instructions for the online Appeal Portal on the Cook County Assessor’s website.
